An Looong Update

I know it's been a long time between posts... These past couple of weeks life has been in the words of one of my coworkers completely ape nuts! I don't even know where to begin, so I guess I'll just jump in...  Forgive me if this post jumps around a lot...

I found out shortly before the quarter ended I passed my comprehensive exams!!  The only thing better than passing was getting a perfect score on one of the questions. On a similar note I survived my Braille class and now I only have three hours left to complete to graduate!!! I'm really excited because for a while I was wondering if I'd ever get to this point...

Seeing eye has finally gotten all of my references and now all I have to do is complete the home interview...I'm praying very very hard that there's still space in the July class!

Work before the break was really busy.  Two of the three nights last weekend I worked until after midnight. We had an event Friday night and then Midnight Breakfast on Sunday night.  Monday and Tuesday was spent tying up last minute things before the break.  Oh, and Sunday morning we had a huge outreach at Trinity which is my church. I volunteered to take it and then after realizing what a big deal it was did nothing short of freaking out...  It was a good outreach, but it wasn't because of anything that I did...  God totally showed up! Proving once again just how faithful God is. I also had an amazing group of people that helped hold it together as well.  Basically, there were a few details that I missed, but fortunately God showed up and it all worked out in the end!

One of my best friends also got married last Saturday.  It was probably the first wedding I've been to where I had to stop myself from crying (I'm an emotional person, but generally I don't cry at weddings). Holly was such a beautiful bride...  and her and Matt look soo good together! They did things a little differently...  Instead of doing an instrumental piece for the processional the parents and bridal party processed to "Butterfly Kisses." Then as Holly was coming down the aisle Matt was singing "Bless the Broken Road." It was so beautiful!! You could definitely feel the love that Holly and Matt have for each other...  I think that's how wedding ceremonies should be! The reception was nice also...  It was a little awkward because Becky was the only person there that I really knew...  Oh well Holly if you're reading this know that no matter how awkward  I felt I would do it again in a second....  I was there for you and Matt...  Just to get to share your wedding day with you not to mention getting a couple of your amazing hugs made it all worth it!!!

I've been on break since Tuesday night...  After a hectic end to my day the break got off to a good start...  I had dinner with Pam and Roland which was nice. I got to share a lot of things including stuff about work, frustrations that I have that I felt like they as someone who is a little further in the journey of life than I am...  There were a couple of blindness specific frustrations that come with my job that they not only understood, but were able to encourage me in as well. I also got to thank Pam for passing me up for Director of Youth Services at the LCB.  I kind of threw my name out there before I even realize they were looking for someone...  By not offering me the position a lot of hard decisions were taken out of my hands not to mention had I been offered the job and taken it I would have missed out on all of the amazing experiences that I have had this year.

I went home Wednesday morning...  Being home was soooo good...  For the most part I did absolutely nothing!  I read, slept a lot and watched TV.  Let me just say that there's really no one on American Idol that impresses me...  Anyway, the only some what productive thing I did was apply for my passport and I'm totally OK with that!

OK, I think that's everything worth mentioning...  Time to get back to my book!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and as always...

KNOW I LOVE YOU!!

More About Guatemala and Other Things

I found out Sunday night that the name of the town where we're going in Guatemala is "Chichicastenango" pronounced chee chee castenango    We'll be leaving on May 18 and returning on June 16. It might sound pretty ridiculous, but I'm so excited about this trip that I'm all but bouncing off the walls!  I had a meeting with one of the guys who's going to be on the team...  He is one of the leadership people that I have this quarter...  Basically the interns have leadership team members that we're responsible for sitting down with every two weeks to see how they are doing and if they need anything etc.  Any way, because he's a Spanish and History major he knew quite a lot about Guatemala so we spent our entire meeting talking about the trip...  needless to say that conversation added to my excitement about going!!  Right now I'm waiting on my birth certificate to come in the mail from the parents so I can apply for my passport.

Comps are once again behind me...  I don't even want to speculate on how I did...  I did that last time and it didn't work out so well for me...  Basically, I'm trying not to think about it until my scores come in.  They should be here sometime towards the end of the quarter which is at the end of this month.

In addition to comps my school adventures included the beginning of my class last weekend.  It's not a hard class, it's just hard to go to class on Friday night and most of the day Saturday...  Oh well, it's only two more weekends and the most exciting thing of all is there's no lit review to write!!  Lord knows I'll get my fill of that when I start my project next quarter!

The only other thing worth mentioning is I got my VR Stream in and it's now all set up and functioning.  At first I wasn't sure how to put stuff onto it, but then I actually read the instructions and realized that there are folders that need to be copied on to the SD card...  I generally do not read directions, because as a rule I can usually figure things out.  On the whole I really like the stream...  My biggest issue with it is it doesn't differentiate speed when switching from books to music.  I almost always forget to change speeds before going to my music folder...  It's been out less than six months so I figure if that's my only problem I'm doing alright.

Speaking of the Stream, I think it's time to go and read before I call it a night...  I've fallen asleep reading for the past couple of nights and I can honestly say that there's no better way to fall asleep!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and

Flying South

So, after what seems like forever details for this summer's mission trips have been nailed down, or at least for the most part...

I'll be going to Guatemala!!!  I'm super excited...  We're going to be serving in an orphanage doing all sorts of things including spending time with the kids performing various types of manual labor and teaching vacation bible school to kids in the orphanage as well as the children in the village.  I will give more details as they become available!

There's also a trip to New York City to do inner-city missions and a possible trip to Peru to do earthquake relief.  That's why I say that details are mostly nailed down.  If everything works out the Peru trip will of course be a go...  We're just waiting to hear back from a family that one of the students has a connection with.

There really isn't too much exciting going on around here aside from decisions about the mission trips....  I go for round two on my comprehensive exams beginning Thursday...  I'm really hoping that the second time is a charm!

OK, now it's off to bed!!!

Have a great night and as always...

An Interesting Way To Spend A Saturday

My time as an intern has been filled with lots of firsts...  Yesterdays activity was no exception...  The Menterns and I spent the better part of our Saturday catering a wedding!  That's right, I said catering a wedding.  The actual caterers backed out with only a weeks notice, so the mother of the bride called Wesley saying that she needed four volunteers.  Both the bride and groom had been involved at Wesley, so of course we were happy to help.  It was actually a lot of fun.  The only thing I didn't like was being on my feet all day in shoes that weren't necessarily made for that purpose.  They weren't heels, but they were uncomfortable nun-the-less.  I guess I should back up here and say that we were more like caterers helpers...  We helped out with the prep and serving, but friends of the bride's family had about 75% of everything done ahead of time.  Of course we also had to clean up afterwards which wouldn't  have been an issue if I had been dressed more appropriately.

Other than my adventures as a caterer the only other thing worth mentioning is that on Friday night I submitted my application to The Seeing Eye.  I'll of course keep everyone posted on what happens with that   Aside from those two things my weekend was filled with the usual weekend things such as laundry, reading and relaxing and church.

Hope everyone had a great weekend...

Know I love you!
